John Craig Venter
|
John Craig Venter is a biologist and entrepreneur, famous for leading one of the first efforts to sequence a human genome (his own) and for his role in creating the first cell with a synthetic genome in 2010.
Venter founded Celera Genomics, The Institute for Genomic Research and the J. Craig Venter Institute. He is now working to create synthetic biological organisms and to document genetic diversity in the world's oceans.
Venter was the first person to have his genome fully sequenced and made public. We hope that one day knowledge of his genealogy will add depth to the understanding that his genome provides.
